The Quechee Club - The Experience That Lasts a Lifetime

Golf Course Update

The weather has settled into a more spring-like pattern with cool nights and moderately warm days. Yesterday, we recieved over 2.5" of rain, which was much needed due to the extremely dry conditions that preceeded that. Now the turf has what it needs to wake up from winter and start growing in earnest.

This coming weekend (5/3 & 5/4) we will have all 36 holes open for play. We anticipate having carts available as well, but that depends on the weather. You should call ahead for details on cart availability. At this point, It does look like we will allow carts for the first time on Friday.

The courses came through the winter in pretty good shape despite the flooding events. The rapid change from snow covered to extremely warm and dry did not do the annual bluegrass any favors, particularly on greens. We experienced some significant wilting of the weakened plants right after the snow melted and before we could get the irrigation system up and running. Most of the damage on greens is already starting to grow out, but they will be splotchy and bumpy for a couple of weeks because of it. Also, our cutting heights are still up a bit so you can expect slower than normal putting conditions for the next couple of weeks as well. We will slowly be lowering the cutting heights along with vertical mowing and topdressing next week, which should dramatically improve the putting speeds.

The golf maintenance staff has been very busy getting things cleaned up and preparing the courses for opening. Spring happened late and all at once, which has us a bit behind on our normal spring preparations. I think you will agree the courses are in good shape for this early in the season.

We will soon be off and running with another great year of golf in Quechee!

Sincerely,
